By 1983, Infotech led Southern African sales for Wang products for three consecutive years. In 1989, it introduced Technicare, a pioneering outsourcing service for unsupported software and systems. Who We Are
Few companies can claim a thriving 40-year legacy in South Africa's economy. Infotech, a dynamic technology firm established in 1980, delivers a diverse portfolio of solutions designed to provide real-time business value to its clients. The company is committed to driving meaningful impact through innovative, cutting-edge technology.
In 1993, Infotech established its R&D division, which became its core focus. In 1994, IBM acquired a 25% stake in Technicare, and the Infotech Foundation was founded to uplift disadvantaged communities, prioritizing black leadership. By 1995, the group reported a 37% annual growth rate since inception. In 1997, Pamodzi Investment Holdings joined Technicare through a BEE deal, acquiring IBM's stake. The 1998 sale of Technicare for R150 million fueled further expansion.
In 1999, Infotech's Cabling Division became Blown Fibre, specializing in fibre optic technology. By 2000, it pivoted to a technology holdings model, focusing on proprietary intellectual property. The 2001 acquisition of Quality Engineering Development strengthened its portfolio. In 2002, home-grown products drove over 50% of revenue, and a joint venture with Wesbank launched Mobile Data, introducing vehicle telematics. BEE efforts continued in 2004, reinforcing Infotech's social commitment.
In 2006, Infotech formed Enermatics Energy to develop smart-meter solutions for South Africa's energy crisis. In 2007, it co-founded Intellibureau Solutions for asset tracking. By 2009, Mobile Data and Enermatics became independent. A 2012 restructuring created three subsidiaries: Infotech RED for R&D, Intellibureau Solutions for commercialization, and iSanity, which managed INFINIDAT in South Africa until 2018. The Authentically Infotech certification unified its brands under innovation and quality.
In 2017, Infotech sold its Intelligen™ and Wattkeeper® platforms to Urbanise, enhancing global IoT and utility billing capabilities. iSanity, excluded from the deal, became independent with Infotech as its majority shareholder. By 2022, iSanity rebranded as Infotech Integrated Solutions, embodying Infotech's 40-year legacy as a trailblazing IT company in South Africa, driving innovation, empowerment, and growth.
